On 4 July 2024 the United Kingdom held a General Election. On 5 July 2024, it became clear that the public had demanded a momentous shift away from the Conservative Party, electing the Labour Party with a great majority, and electing Liberal Democrat and Green Party MPs in record numbers.
A small footnote to that historic moment was the result in Tewkesbury. With one of the highest vote swings in the country, our constituency elected its first new MP since 1997 and Tewkesbury Town itself was now represented by its first non-Conservative MP since 1885.
To stand for you, speak for you and to vote for you in Parliament is one of the greatest honours ever bestowed upon me, but it is also a great responsibility. However we may agree or disagree, I will endeavour to represent you with dignity and integrity and ensure that our voting record accurately reflects the liberal and democratic values you elected me for.
You elected me not to shy away from the difficult decisions, not to abstain from contentious votes, but to vote for you with courage and to do so visibly and vocally. I will endeavour to find the right balance between my role in Westminster, and presence within our broad constituency. I hope not to let you down.
Thank you,
Cam.
